What you can do on Google Photos
Note: The help content here is based on the following app version:
4.5.x.
Here are some of the things you can do when using
Google Photos™.
- View, edit, and share your photos and videos. You can also access the media files previously backed up to your Google Account.
- To select photos and videos, tap > Select. Tap a date to select all the media files under it. Or, tap the thumbnails that you want to select.
- Create collages, animations, and movies.
- Search by people, things, or places in your photos.

support.google.com/photos.
Viewing photos and videos
Important: When you open Google Photos for the first time, sign in to your Google Account, if prompted, and choose whether to turn backup and sync on or off.
- From the Home screen, swipe up and then find and tap Photos.
You'll see your local and synced photos and videos organized by date.
- To switch to another view, tap > Layout, and then choose how you want to view your media files.
- Tap a thumbnail to view it in full screen.
- To view only the photos and videos saved on the phone storage and storage card, tap to open the slideout menu, and then tap Device folders.
Editing your photos
- From the Home screen, swipe up and then find and tap Photos.
- Tap a photo thumbnail to view it in full screen.
- Tap , and then do any of the following:
- Tap to adjust the brightness, color, and more.
- Tap to apply a filter to the photo.
- Tap to rotate or crop the photo.
- While you're editing, press and hold the photo to compare your changes to the original.
- After making your adjustments, tap Save.
Trimming a video
- From the Home screen, swipe up and then find and tap Photos.
- Tap a video thumbnail to view it in full screen.
- Tap , and then drag the trim sliders to the part where you want the video to begin and end.
- Tap to preview your trimmed video.
- Tap Save.
The trimmed video is saved as a copy. The original video remains unedited.
